Working in collaboration with New York City-based artists and arts organizations, Crosby Street Gallery presented a series of exciting public exhibitions and pop-up galleries in New York last summer and fall. We are back in New York City with a photography exhibition and will be launching our online store.

Current Events

The Space Between
August 24 to September 15
333 Park Avenue South, Suite 2A (between 24th and 25th Sts.)
New York, New York

Upcoming events include the opening reception on Aug. 24th from 6-8:30PM.

"The Space Between" is where we exist - between heaven and earth, light and dark, a still moment and churning chaos. Explore how these opposing elements are interwoven together and are ultimately reflected in ourselves. This exhibition features contemporary photography by the three Crosby Street Gallery founders, Jeffrey Badillo, Julie Chan, and Robert Sanchez, and photographer Jakop Nazaretyan. These four artists capture stunning landscapes and cloud formations that explore "The Space Between" through literal, figurative, and philosophic lenses. This exhibit marks the release of an exclusive new collection of limited edition fine art prints.

In putting together the photographs for this exhibit, we first decided to explore the concept of "the space between." When we convened to choose the artwork, we found that all three of us had a different interpretation of the phrase. These interpretations ranged from the idea of physical space and the separation of forms to the intricate understanding of the Taoist concept of nonbeing and its relation to our spacial awareness. When you visit the exhibit, be sure to ask each of us for our interpretation of the theme. We would love to walk you through the reasoning we used in approaching the exhibition and detail both our personal understanding and our group philosophy.

This exhibition is made possible through our new partnership with Artsource International.

Looking Glass
August 8 - October 3, 2010
Pallet City Exhibition Space, FIGMENT
Governors Island, New York

When you look outside your window, what do you see? If someone peers into your window, what would they see? Windows represent a number of things, from transparency, light, and naked truth to privacy and security. This collection asks you to think about our world through unique and varied perspectives. Looking Glass is a collection of reclaimed wood and glass paned windows that carefully frame photography by Crosby Street Gallery founders Jeff Badillo, Julie Chan, and Robert Sanchez. Mirrors and glass are incorporated into the exhibition to add to the unique experience of seeing and being seen. The series plays with your understanding of size, perspective, time, place, and emotion. Looking Glass captures the joys, fascinations, fears, and curiosities of experiencing life in the city. Looking Glass is proud to be a part of Pallet City, an innovative representation of the interactive city using recycled shipping pallets. Designed by Katherine Gressel and Jeremy Reed, Pallet City is part of the FIGMENT outdoor sculpture show on Governors Island.

We encourage visitors to engage with the artwork. Frame your own faces and photography in the mirrored windows or be creative and capture your reflections, or even the shapes and colors of FIGMENT's sculptures in the background. To be a part of our blog, send a photograph of your interpretation, along with your name, city, and brief description to: rob@crosbystreetgallery.com.
