When you look outside your window, what do you see? If someone peers into your window, what would they see? Windows represent a number of things, from transparency, light, and naked truth to privacy and security. This collection asks you to think about our world through unique and varied perspectives. Looking Glass is a collection of reclaimed wood and glass paned windows that carefully frame photography by Crosby Street Gallery founders Jeff Badillo, Julie Chan, and Robert Sanchez. Mirrors and glass are incorporated into the exhibition to add to the unique experience of seeing and being seen. The series plays with your understanding of size, perspective, time, place, and emotion. Looking Glass captures the joys, fascinations, fears, and curiosities of experiencing life in the city. Looking Glass is proud to be a part of Pallet City, an innovative representation of the interactive city using recycled shipping pallets. Designed by Katherine Gressel and Jeremy Reed, Pallet City is part of the FIGMENT outdoor sculpture show on Governors Island.
We encourage visitors to engage with the artwork. Frame your own faces and photography in the mirrored windows or be creative and capture your reflections, or even the shapes and colors of FIGMENT's sculptures in the background.. To be a part of our blog, send a photograph of your interpretation, along with your name, city, and brief description to: rob@crosbystreetgallery.com.
Join us at our opening reception on Saturday, August 21st at 2pm (raindate August 22nd)!

Crosby Street Gallery is thrilled to open a temporary gallery and store in New Haven, home not only to Yale University, but to the many students, arts professionals and art lovers that make the city a diverse and vibrant place. For three months, we will be curating the gallery with a series of exhibitions and performances that explore everything from photography, drawing, and fashion to dance, film, music, and theater. We view this as an opportunity to present a broad range of talented emerging and professional New York and New Haven-based artists. Check our website or join our e-mail list for updates about upcoming exhibitions and open calls for artists.
"Project Storefronts," which brings artists, arts groups and creative entrepreneurs into vacant storefronts, is a pilot program designed to enliven the city's commercial districts and encourage new arts-related retail and ventures. This gallery is made possible by a partnership with the City of New Haven's Department of Cultural Affairs, Office of Economic Development, and New Haven Economic Development Corporation.
